Special Department № 1

Special Department № 1 is the degree-granting department of the Institute and provides educational training for specialists in the field of information technology under the specialty F5 Cybersecurity and Data Protection at the bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral (PhD) degree levels.

The department employs highly qualified professionals, among them 2 Doctors of Sciences, 14 PhDs, including 2 Professors and 7 Associate Professors.

The department’s material and technical base includes specialised laboratories of technical information protection and special communications, as well as a modern computer classroom that ensures the training of graduates using advanced specialized equipment and cryptographic information protection tools.

Bachelor’s Programme

The training of a specialist in cybersecurity and information protection includes educational components (academic disciplines) in the areas of cryptographic information protection, technical information protection, computer systems and network protection and special communications security.

Graduates of the department acquire the following relevant professional competencies:

  • Analysis, assessment and response to cybersecurity incidents in network environments
  • Elimination or mitigation of cybersecurity incidents
  • Monitoring and evaluation of system cybersecurity status and timely incident reporting
  • Organisation of security for special communications systems
  • Counteraction to hacker attacks and technical intelligence means
  • Design and operation of cryptographic and technical information protection tools and systems

Students have can choose elective educational components to acquire competencies corresponding to professional standards for the following professions:

  • Cybersecurity Incident Response Specialist
  • Cryptographic Information Protection Specialist
  • Technical Information Protection Specialist;
  • Cybersecurity Policy and Strategy Planning Specialist

Master’s Programme

The professional training of master’s students focuses on mastering the educational and professional programme “Security of State Information Resources”, which offers elective educational components leading to the following specialisations:

  • Protection of State Information Resources
  • Security and Cyber Defence of Critical Infrastructure Facilities

Master’s studies are accompanied by extensive student participation in practical activities:

  • Cyber defence competitions (hackathons and CTFs), scientific contests and subject-specific olympiads, etc
  • Internships in future employment units
  • Participation in cyber training exercises
  • International internships in specialised educational institutions and cybersecurity organisations

Postgraduate Studies (PhD Programme)

The main research areas of the department include:

  1. Development and resilience analysis of post-quantum cryptographic systems.
  2. Methodology for standardisation of technical information protection.
  3. Risk-oriented protection of information against leakage through technical channels.
  4. Intelligent data flow management in special-purpose telecommunication networks.
  5. Protection and countermeasure against technical intelligence systems.
  6. Development and improvement of methods, technologies and strategies for protecting state information resources against cyber threats.
